01 / THE WORKSHEET

Explore a sentence timeline

See a conditional date for home confinement and an estimated custodial finish. Compare an assumed or imposed term with an FSA estimate when eligibility is known or explicitly assumed.

Check eligibility before using this worksheet

This model does not determine whether a conviction qualifies for FSA time credits. If you are ineligible or unsure, it will not generate an FSA estimate. Review BOP’s disqualifying offense list ↗

Your planning stage

Before sentencing, every date and sentence length here is an assumption.

FSA eligibility is separate from good conduct time. If uncertain, you can still see a sentence-only baseline, without FSA credits.

1

Sentence & dates

The term is modeled from arrival at the designated BOP facility.

Good conduct time (GCT) is modeled as 0 days for sentences of 12 months or less. A term longer than one year, such as 12 months + 1 day, can qualify for GCT. The BOP determines actual credits. BOP explanation ↗

Adjust release baseline ⌄

If you enter a BOP release date, leave prior custody days at 0; the official date already incorporates those days.

2

Participation & application

Earning credit and applying it to placement are separate questions.

3

Meeting timing

Enter calendar days from the assumed or actual BOP custody start.

Do not know your meeting dates yet?

In a presentence scenario, use 0 for the first meeting as an optimistic placeholder. BOP calls for initial classification within 28 days after arrival at the designated institution; delays can occur. Program reviews occur at least every 90 days when within 12 months of the projected release date, and at least every 180 days otherwise. The interval runs from the assumed first meeting, so day 28 followed by 90 days means day 118 in the second box. Try both day 0 and day 28 to see how the estimate changes.

These are examples, not your scheduled meetings. BOP unit management policy ↗

This model switches to 15 days only for a full 30-day earning period after the second qualifying assessment, assuming both risk assessments are low or minimum. A meeting alone does not guarantee the higher rate or release.

02 / TRANSITION

Understand RRC and home confinement

An RRC transfer can happen before a later period at home. FSA and traditional SCA rules are distinct; BOP’s conditional transition date is the case-specific reference.

How this estimate works

For an FSA-eligible person assumed to remain in earning status, each completed 30-day period adds 10 days of credits. A qualifying low or minimum risk status over two consecutive assessments can raise that to 15. The FTC-only date is a conditional planning estimate; it is not an approved prison exit, RRC, or home-confinement date.

The traditional SCA home-confinement window uses the shorter of 10% of the imposed sentence or six months. For exact whole-month tenths, 30 months becomes three calendar months; other fractions use rounded days. The SCA date is measured backward from the release baseline and is never silently shortened to the BOP arrival date. If it falls before that arrival date, the worksheet flags the inputs for review. The combined planning illustration subtracts the SCA window from a threshold based on completed earning periods. BOP conditional placement dates may use projected future credits, so this illustration can be later than an actual move to an RRC or home. Credits may not yet have posted at the illustrated home date; BOP placement is a separate decision. This is one cautious scenario, not an earliest date or a worst-case limit. The custodial finish uses GCT and prior custody credit but does not predict FSA credits applied to early supervised release. Actual BOP calculations and placement decisions may differ. 05 / QUESTIONS BEFORE SURRENDER

Questions I had before federal prison

When will I actually come home?

The calculator gives a conditional planning scenario. BOP records and its individualized placement decision control the actual date. Ask your case manager for the conditional community or home-confinement date and whether placement has been approved.

What is Good Conduct Time?

GCT may shorten an eligible sentence longer than one year. This site gives a simple estimate; compare it with the BOP projected release date on your sentence computation.

How do FSA time credits build?

Eligible people can earn credits through qualifying participation. The rate and ability to apply them depend on BOP assessments and records. The worksheet shows an assumption for each complete 30-day period.

Will I go to an RRC before home confinement?

Some people move through a residential reentry center; others may be considered for direct home placement. The site cannot decide the route or guarantee either placement.

What should I bring to a team meeting?

Bring your sentence computation, time-credit information, and questions about eligibility, posted credits, risk assessments, projected release, and conditional placement. BOP FSA FAQ ↗
